Horse Sport Ireland Affiliate Combined Training Challenge 2022
Horse Sport Ireland are once again delighted to be sponsoring the HSI Affiliate Combined Training Challenge in the Spring of 2022, run by Eventing Ireland. Following on from the success of previous year’s sponsorship of Combined Training Leagues and off the back of the positive HSI Autumn Development Series in 2021, this initiative is crucial to the beginning of a successful competition season and the production and training of young horses in Ireland.
The HSI Affiliate Combined Training Challenge aims to encourage members of all HSI affiliates to compete at levels to suit their abilities, and to encourage the use of correct training on the flat and jumping. Qualifiers are open to all Horse Sport Ireland affiliate members including Eventing Ireland, Dressage Ireland, Showjumping Ireland, Irish Pony Club, Irish Pony Society and Riding Clubs (please see full list of HSI affiliates at www.horsesportireland.ie/about/affiliates). All athletes must be a member of one affiliate at the time of entry. Horses/ponies may compete on a day registration.
This HSI Affiliate Combined Training Challenge will fall under Eventing Ireland rules and will cover the three disciplines of eventing, and incorporating, where possible, some cross-country fences. Prize money will be on offer for every class in every qualifier including the final.

Qualification for the Affiliate Combined Training League Final
• Combinations may compete in any leg in any of the regions.
• The top two horse/rider combinations from each class will qualify for the Final.
• A combination may only enter one class at the Final. If qualified for more than one class, the entrant must select their preferred class for the Final.
• Qualification will ONLY pass down if either combination placed in the top two in the class have already qualified. If a qualified combination does not take up entry for the Final, the next placed combination at that qualifier will be invited to enter the Final.
• Only qualified combinations can enter the Final.
• Any combination not qualified will have their entry fee refunded
The Affiliate Combined Training League will be run under Eventing Ireland Rules.
Dressage will be the first phase followed immediately by the jumping phase. The same horse and athlete combination must complete both phases.
Dressage phase
• Dress and tack rules as per EI rules
• Dressage Ireland listed dressage judge required
Jumping Phase
• Dress and tack rules as per EI rules
• Penalties as per EI Rule book
Scoring of the Competition
• The results will be scored as per EI Combined Training (dressage penalties plus any jumping penalties) giving a final result, so lowest result wins.
• Elimination from one phase involves elimination from the whole competition. However, if eliminated in the dressage, an athlete may ask permission from the organiser to participate in the show jumping phase, but the final result will state Eliminated
In the event of equality:
• If the final score gives equality of marks to two or more athletes, the lowest jumping penalties apply
• If there is still equality, the classification is decided by the lowest marks for the dressage test. If there is still equality, the combination with the highest collectives in the dressage wins.
• If still equal after the above has been applied, then equal placings should be awarded and prize money divided equally.
PLEASE NOTE: TRAINING WILL RUN UNDER HORSE SPORT IRELAND COVID-19 PROTOCOLS IN PLACE AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT.
